New research shows Instagram is now a major social network for schools
Alumni networking provider Graduway today published its second Higher Education Product and Social Network Survey.
Graduway conducted a snapshot survey of 60 business schools and universities across the US, Europe, Canada and Australia. The purpose of the survey was to provide an indication of which products and social networks are currently most popular with higher education institutions.
The results indicated that for databases Blackbaud remains, and even increased its market leading position with 49.2%, followed by Ellucian with 17.0%, Excel with 15.3% and Salesforce, Microsoft Dynamics and Oracle PeopleSoft in fourth place with 3.4% each. On communication tools, Blackbaud retains its market lead, followed closely by iModules, Ellucian and Mail Chimp all polling around 14%.
When schools were asked to list which of their official social networks were most popular with their alumni, unsurprisingly LinkedIn fared strongly and kept its score at 75%. Of greater surprise was the continued growth of Twitter and particularly Facebook versus our last survey. However the biggest news was the emergence of Instagram polling 13.3%. It is fast emerging as one of the big 4 social networks for schools that can no longer be ignored in their communications strategy.
Daniel Cohen, CEO of Graduway commented, "The rise of Instagram is very interesting. For most schools Instagram used to be a ‘nice to have’ social network. The trend in the last 6 months is clear and requires us all to find new and creative ways to better integrate and leverage Instagram in our alumni offering alongside the other three major social networks.”
Graduway is a leading provider of alumni networking platforms. Founded in 2009, it has established itself as a leading provider of alumni networking platforms in the higher education sector and in particular with business schools
